Privacy Policy

Privacy, without the fog.

This policy explains the information Rouna processes, why we use it, how long it may remain, and the choices available to you during our invite-only alpha.

Effective and last updated: August 11, 2026

Alpha note

Rouna is pre-release software. The alpha uses a shared virtual plaza for discovery and preview authentication that does not send SMS or verify ownership of the entered phone number.

1. Information we process

Early-access list

When you ask to join the early-access list, we process your email address, selected phone platform, confirmation that you requested updates, and signup source to manage invitations and send occasional testing or launch updates. A submission is unverified until you confirm it.

Account and profile

We process the phone number entered for authentication, date of birth, display name, pronouns or profile details you choose to provide, connection intentions, and account identifiers. During the alpha, invited testers may use dedicated test credentials.

Face card and camera

When you check in, you capture a current face-card photo. We process the image, its capture time, storage path, and freshness state so other people can see that your photo is current. Rouna does not need access to your entire photo library for this flow.

Location and presence

With permission, Rouna processes foreground location and check-in information to support nearby discovery and prevent stale presence. We do not show other users your precise coordinates. In the current remote alpha, discovery is intentionally routed through a shared virtual plaza rather than real-world proximity.

Social content

We process Hi requests, accept or pass decisions, private and group messages, message edits and deletions, group membership, blocks, and reports to operate the service. Deleted messages may leave a visible tombstone and restricted edit history may remain when needed for safety.

Device, notifications, and diagnostics

We process device and app identifiers, push notification tokens, notification preferences, build and environment information, errors, and limited product events. Message content is not copied into product analytics.

2. How we use information

  • Provide authentication, profiles, check-ins, discovery, Hi requests, chats, groups, and notifications.
  • Keep face cards and presence time-bounded.
  • Enforce blocks, investigate reports, prevent abuse, and support appeals.
  • Understand reliability and product use through limited analytics.
  • Meet legal obligations and protect the rights and safety of Rouna, our testers, and others.

3. Who receives information

Other testers receive the profile, face card, freshness, presence, and social content necessary for the feature you use. Service providers process information for hosting, storage, authentication, notifications, security, and diagnostics. Rouna currently uses Supabase for backend services, Expo/EAS for app delivery, Apple Push Notification service for iOS notifications, and Firebase Cloud Messaging for Android notifications. We do not sell personal information.

4. Retention

  • Early-access list records remain until they are no longer needed for testing or launch communications, or until you ask us to delete them.
  • Raw product events are retained for 30 days; de-identified daily totals may be retained for 24 months.
  • Ordinary unreported message content and consent-exchange records are scheduled for deletion on a rolling 30-day basis.
  • Unresolved safety cases and appeals remain protected until resolved.
  • Ordinary safety evidence is retained for 90 days after final case closure. High-risk, urgent, serious, ban, or repeat-abuse evidence may remain for one year after closure.
  • An audited legal hold pauses deletion until released. Moderation case metadata and audit history may be retained longer.

5. Account deletion

You can start permanent deletion inside Rouna under You → Account & notifications → Delete account and data. Live identity, profile, presence, current photo, Hi, chat, and group-membership records are removed with the account. Limited report-related evidence and report-time conversation history may be retained privately under the safety schedule above. See the account deletion guide.

6. Your choices

You can decline camera, location, and notification permissions, though some features will not work. You can edit profile details, end a check-in, block or report another person, leave a group, and delete your account. You may contact us to ask about access, correction, deletion, or another privacy right that applies where you live.

7. Age and scope

Rouna is currently intended only for invited testers who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly permit children to use the alpha.

8. Security and changes

We use access controls, private storage, server-authoritative permissions, and restricted moderation tooling designed to protect information. No system is perfectly secure. We may update this policy as Rouna changes and will revise the date above when we do.

9. Contact

Questions or privacy requests can be sent through Rouna Feedback or by email to jregismitrik@gmail.com.
